Trainer set up at shows.... how a barn and ribbons are left speaks volumes!

People will remember what you DO far longer than what you SAY! What do you say by your actions? What are you teaching your students who follow your every example? How far does teaching common respect go.....

One of the most amazing, unique AND FREE advertising platforms in the horse industry, and specifically hunter and jumpers, is the manner in which you market your business, and present yourself at the shows....and sadly, this platform is one of the most ignored and overlooked and abused!

Spending thousands of dollars for 'the look' in front of your row of stalls of your clients horses, most professionals overlook the simplest, but most important part, of that look... when you leave, what do you leave behind? Just whose barn is it anyway?

Having a beautiful setup, and celebrating your victories extends further than you may think.

MOSTLY..
What do I do with the ribbons at the end of the show?
**Do I throw them on the ground for the cleaning crew? Do I follow up with my grooms?
**Do I make a point to ask riders to take home their ribbons?
**Do I carefully donate, or turn back in to the office, any left overs as we pack up to go?
**Do I even care?

Keep in mind it is always about marketing and exposure! Our business lives are spent promoting what we do and what we are successful at...make sure that anyone walking by at the end of a show, simply by looking, knows just exactly who you are and what you have achieved. It is all about respect, self respect and promotion exposure.

QUICK STORY AND EXAMPLE,,,
There was a Japanese sports team playing in World Cup Finals competition, here is the headline that was hear around the world..

Japan's Players Redefine Sportsmanship By Cleaning
Up Locker Room After Losing at the World Cup

Japan suffered a devastating loss against Belgium in the knock-out round of the World Cup. The loss meant Japan was out of the World Cup soccer competition and headed home. Before they left, though, the heartbroken team showed an impressive display of good sportsmanship and even better manners.

On the field, the team respectfully thanked their opponents. They then filed into the locker room to change. But before they departed, they left the room completely spotless and even left a thank you note for their hosts.

I have reported many many times, and posted pictures of the ribbon trash heap left around the stalls at the end of the shows, I have not mentioned names although it is usually the same people and the same discipline that leaves a mess. I have never posted barn or trainer names connected with the disrespect...maybe I should.

"WE REMEMBER OURSELVES BY OUR LAST WIN, PEOPLE REMEMBER US BY THEIR LAST IMPRESSION!"

Happy Fathers Day

As I trundle aroundthe showgrounds here at Blenheim on this beautiful day, it is amazing to see so many fathers here cheering on their children...makes me pause to think about 'stuff'!!

Today is Fathers Day and for those of you lucky enough to have Dads still here, be sure you express to them MORE than the words for the day. You are only here because someone became a Dad and I believe each of them LOVE you like crazy. For those of us who do not have our Dads here anymore, try to get together with someone who does and enjoy the sentiment of the day. maybe some family will let you tag along.

For those of us who never had a participating Dad at points in life, or had a participating Dad that should not have been around, or do not have the father of their child or children around either, or have some childhood memories that may not be flowers and sunshine.....TIME TO FORGIVE AND MOVE ON! As hard as that sounds, that is my choice for the day and I am going to love and cherish the men I have met in this sport and in life who stay and love children. HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!

I have been in the hunter-jumper industry SO long I almost forget what it was like before I got 'here'! But 'here' is where I am and with all those years comes a wide variety of opinions and observations.

SOME of these will be informative, some funny, some will make you scratch your head and some will actually make a few people plenty mad.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT AND ADD YOUR OWN OBSERVATIOINS
